Running unopposed, Art Riley recieved the Capital District's unanimous acclamation as Governor 2007-2008 during the Capital District Convention which was recently held in Rockville, MD. Also unopposed, Tom Ganse received the District's unanimous acclamation as Governor Elect 2007-2008. None of the three candidates (Dick Feeser, Charlie Adams, Jerry Peuler) who were vying for Capital District's Endorsement for the position of Kiwanis International Trustee received a majority vote on the first ballot, necessitating a run-off between Adams and Peuler. Gov. Msg. Teen of Year CKI Conv. New Club Veterans "Thanks" from Tom Ganse

What Great Fun & Fellowship! What a GREAT District Convention!
by Gov. Bob Cressy

Well, Capital District Kiwanians, you have outdone yourselves. As I reflect on our just-completed 89th Annual Capital District Kiwanis Convention held at the almost-completed Hilton Hotel and Executive Conference Center in Rockville, Maryland, I hope you agree it was a resounding success.

...I believe our most important task in the next FOUR weeks is to help each and every club try to make "Distinguished Club" status. Why? Well, first every club (and everyone is a member of a club, their club) has worked hard this year in service to their communities. Most clubs, and I do mean most, are either slightly ahead on membership net growth or a just a bit shy of +1 by two or three members. more

Report of 52nd CKI Convention
by Jeffrey Wolff

The Capital Crabs visited Portland, Oregon in August for the 52nd Annual Circle K International Convention and they left with great memories, new friends and a high percentage of the awards. Capital District CKI was well represented by a delegation of 35 CKI members and Kiwanians who had a great time at the annual conference this time hosted by the Pacific-Northwest District. In spite of having travel over 2000 miles to reach convention, Capital had the third largest delegation in attendance behind California-Nevada-Hawaii and the host district. more

New Kiwanis Club of Dulles Area
by Tom Ganse

Congratulations to Division 20 and LTG Tony Gee for the formation of the Capital District's fourth new club this year, the Kiwanis Club of the Dulles Area, VA, organized today with 25 members (and growing)! A special thanks go out to the sponsoring club of Arlington and their New Club Building Team led by PGs Ed Novak and Warren Kane, and to PG John Tyner for his continuous support throughout the formative process. GREAT JOB!

Governor Bob Cressy was on hand today to immediately install the Charter Officers and Directors. This is a creative and dynamic group that is already making a difference in the greater Dulles Area, and one that is not afraid to try new and different approaches to remain relevant in the community they serve!

A Charter Picnic is tentatively set for September 30th, 2007 at Algonkian Park. Please stay tuned for more detailed information as it becomes available.

Wounded Vets From Vietnam
by Caren Schumacher

Bill Henekey (second from left) recently spoke to the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg about his experience in Vietnam, his resulting injuries, and the organization he founded, Families of the Wounded, Inc. The mission of the organization is to provide financial resources in support of family members/caregiver of military service men and women who have either been wounded in combat operations or as the result of line-of-duty activities in support of combat operations.
