Coastal Delaware Kiwanis SLP Clubs Treat Seniors
by Rosemary Cummings
When Peggy Chandler from Harbor Healthcare and Rehab Center in Lewes, DE visited the Coastal DE Kiwanis Club in November, the members asked if there was something the K-Kids could do for the residents. Ms. Chandler indicated it would be nice if the residents had something small for their tray Christmas morning. With that came a new project the K-Kids and the Key Club could do for the nearly 200 residents First, the Key Clubs and K-Kids made a simple napkin ring with Christmas stickers, two stickers to a ring, although some kids got carried away and put four or five on a ring. Next, a favor cup with bright red or green tissue paper wrapped around a small cup, and a small tree or stocking affixed to the front,. The kids then filled the decorated cup with mints, small chocolates, a strawberry filled jelly candy, and topped with a small candy cane. Appropriately each child made a small greeting card with drawings and stickers to send greetings from the K-Kids. Advisors Ms. Cummings and Ms. Spaulding delivered the trays of napkin rings (each wrapping a napkin), along with a huge basket and two trays of the favor cups and a sack full of greeting cards. Just like Santa. Ms. Chandler was delighted to receive these special hand-made treats and afterwards reported, " The Christmas favors and napkin holders were such a hit!! I cannot thank you enough. ... such a wonderful generous gift!"
