BIS "Builders Club" Officers Ready to Lead

by David Landis

Berlin Intermediate School (BIS) in Berlin, Maryland is the home of a "Builders Club" which is the elementary school level Kiwanis International Club. The young students learn leadership and community service and the workings of an after school organization. These children do projects such as the upcoming Trick or Treat for UNICEF project whereby they raise funds to help UNICEF eliminate Tetanus in third world countries, Tetanus is a preventable, but if untreated, deadly disease. Teachers at BIS will also pitch in with a Casual Friday that also contributes to the Builders Club collection efforts.

On Tuesday October 11th, members of the parent club attended the installation of the new officers. Kiwanis Club President, Mike Morton, performed the installation.

Pictured (Front L to R) are President Jake Ginther, Treasurer Sarah Wenzel, and V.P. Kyla Taylor. (Back Row L to R) Educational Assistant from BIS and a member of Kiwanis, Jane Slotter, who is the sponsor for the Builders Club, Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines-Ocean City Mike Morton, and Kiwanian Peg Morton, who is the liaison to the Builders Club. Builders Club Secretary, Samantha Stephans, was not present.

After the installation the rest of the Builders Club members are pictured sharing the moment with the officers they elected. And so another year of service and learning is in full swing.
