Spotlight
on a Model Kiwanis Member: Jack Eliason
by Rosemary Cummings
Who says older members just turn out for lunch? Rehoboth
Beach Kiwanis member, Past President Jack Eliason disproves
all the rumors. The Rehoboth Beach November Kiwanian of
the month, Jack who will be 87 years-old this month, is
still
working the annual Christmas Creche project and recently
sponsored a new member, Margaret Spaulding. His attends
all meetings barring an occasional doctor appointment,
helps
with Club Hospitality, works on all community service projects,
and attends Board meetings. Jack, a recent Hixson honoree,
will soon become a Legion of Honor Member, as he completes
25 years as a Kiwanian. Jack was pleasantly surprised with
a recent Club program, when the presenter was a former
Key Club member, which the Rehoboth Club sponsored. Jack
has
often lamented, there has to be a way to get our Key Club
members to join after they graduate from college. This
gracious young lady not only gave a good presentation but
also took
an application and plans to become a member. If more Clubs
had older members like
Jack, Kiwanis would be stronger and more energetic, as
Jack is the "we ought to do this" behind many of the Club
projects
as he convinces younger members to take on new projects.
