It is always a pleasure to sponsor a new member in Kiwanis who is dedicated to the Objects of Kiwanis and participates in every activity with enthusiasm. So when I sponsored Robert W. (Bob) Pierce in January of 1970, I knew I had picked a prospective young man who would make an ideal Kiwanian. Bob became involved in every phase of the Kiwanis Club of Winchester, Virginia but especially loved the semi annual Pancake Days over the years he has been a member. He put new life in the Pancake Day Committee, is a record advance ticket sales person, established a dress code and procedure that met with the Health Department requirements, and attended weekly committee meetings to plan this fund raising event. All this helped to establish an event that would net over twenty five thousand dollars each time. He is always there when some item of business comes up at meetings that needs clarification for our members.
Because of his love for Kiwanis, he quickly sponsored his new son-in-law, Fred Anderson, and had him pick up the reins of Pancake Day as the new Chairman. When the local Salvation Army needed 100 frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving Dinner, Bob picked up the pace and had them ready when need. A project he went with to a successful ending. Bob's perfect attendance record in the Winchester Club stands out as a record for new members coming into the club and he voices his concerns about being an active member during question and answer interviews with prospective members. A real asset to our Club and a great guy with it.
