Virginia Beach Club
by Nancy Pindur
One of our newer members, Nancy Gossett, came up with a great addition to our meetings, two minute talks. Becasue we have a growing membership and many "older" members do not know the "newer" members and vice versa, a name of a member is drawn each week and that member stands and gives a two minute talk about him or herself. It is a great way to get to know one another and help get conversations started when sitting together at lunch.
Our Nags Head weekend retreat was a huge success and left members talking about it with those who did not attend and looking forward to our next retreat.
On May 5th ten of our members will participate in the Kiwanis Clubs of Hampton Roads National Day of Prayer Breakfast. On May 10th our Kiwanis night out social event will be at the Forbidden City Restaurant . The owners are large contributors to our Golf Tournament as well as other fundraising charities we sponsor.
The planning for this years Golf Tournament has been long underway and it appears we will have another successful event on May 18th to support our children's charities.
We continue to actively support our People First/Aktion Club each month at their meetings. Some of their members visited our meeting this past month and at heir sponsor, Nancy Montieth of Virginia Beach Social Services accept4ed our support check from our Treasurer, Tom Balen at a meeting this month.
This month, due to our annual State of Town Center membership drive luncheon we have had several visitors returning to see what our club is all about and we continue to grow in membership as well as increase our support of local charities.
Barry Frankenfield from the VB planning commission spoke about new areas of development in our city.
Nancy Montieth, Social Services sponsor of our People First/Aktion Club receives our check to the group.
