Kiwanis Foundation Cup Golf Tournament
by Ed Stover
The Richmond Kiwanis Club's 11th annual tournament was held on September 21st at Independence Golf Course on a picture-perfect day for golf. This event each year raises funds that will permit about 350 inner-city kids to attend Camp Little Hawk the following summer. Approximately $23,000 was raised. We had 86 Kiwanians and guests playing - which may be a record number.
Chairing this year's event were Ron Sweeney and Reaves Louthan. Principal sponsors were Genworth Foundation and the Pearson Automobile Dealerships. In addition to those playing, several non-golfing volunteers helped to manage the activities. Besides the golf competition, over 50 prizes with total value of $5,000 to $6,000 were offered in a raffle. Prizes consisted of passes to play at a number of area golf courses, restaurant gift certificates, and golf equipment.
The winning foursome, with a net score of 46, came from the KPMG accounting firm. They were Matt Dumeer, Paul Croston, Nick Harrison, and Heather Rice (none of whom are Kiwanians). Thanks to Ralph Crosby for signing them up to play. Now maybe we can get them to join our club! A few pictures are shown below.
