WANTED: One dedicated Kiwanian per club who wants to see increased service to their community
by PG Art Riley
Kiwanians are always identifying new projects that are needed in the communities they serve but often there is not enough money or "Kiwanian hours" to tackle new projects. There is a solution to the lack of available time to devote to projects. That answer is to attract to new members.
To accomplish recruitment of new members, each club should identify a Kiwanian who can captain the club growth effort. This person can start right now in September and continue through the 2010-11 year. Formulas and the process are documented and simple. Clubs within the Capital District have proven that a simple process works. These steps include:
- Succinctly document the purpose and the benefits your club provides to your community and be certain club projects are relevant to the needs of the community.
- Project realistic membership goals.
- Develop a plan to meet the goals. The plan should include "targeted populations," and a realistic time line.
- Build on the reputation of Kiwanis service to youth service leadership development.
- Utilize promotional materials from Kiwanis International or create club specific material.
- Promote the successes of the club.
- Dedicate the efforts of the club for the entire year to GROW.
Remember, the "captain," however, is not solely responsible for the club growth. Each member needs to do their part. There is a role for every Kiwanian in growing your club to deliver more service and there are members of the Capital District Club Growth Committee that can assist your club to develop a plan. If you would like assistance contact Capital District Club Growth Committee chair, Arthur Riley, RxArthur@aol.com. If the Kiwanis club you belong to is serious about club growth, start now!!
