Botetourt Club/Education Center Charity Partnership Marks 20 Years

 Thanksgiving
2008 marks the twentieth anniversary of a special relationship
between the Kiwanis Club of Botetourt, the students at Botetourt
Technical Education Center, and more than 600 grateful people
in Botetourt County. For the past two decades, the students
and members of the community service organization have joined
together to help make Thanksgiving and Christmas brighter
holidays by collecting and buying food to present to needy
individuals and families in the County...more

Recently
the Capital District Board of Trustees voted to discontinue
the printed version of the Capital Builder. This decision
comes on the heels of a recent survey to which many club
members responded with some excellent arguments both
for and against doing away with the Capital Builder...
Thanks to the contribution and coordination of the Mt.
Airy Kiwanis Club, local Mt. Airy youth celebrated its
first Halloween
in the town's current, temporary Teen Center with a costume
party and all the trimmings provided by Kiwanis. The town
has graciously offered the basement of Town Hall on Friday
evenings as a "Teen
Center" to local youth and the number of participating youth is continuing to grow as
a result. The connection with the Teen Center is a natural
fit for the club and conversations are underway to identify
other ways the club can support the development of the
Center. Pictured are local youth who helped plan and participated
in the Halloween party.
