Many individuals join Kiwanis clubs specifically because we are an international
organization with a global mission-that lofty goal of changing
the world one child and one community at a time. To this
point, with a few notable exceptions, our Capital District
clubs seem to have focused on local efforts directed toward
helping our own children and communities. This is commendable,
but it does not address the incredible needs of children
worldwide...Accordingly,
our District Committee on International Understanding has
decided to pursue a new approach
to achieving our global mission. We have selected Africa because its needs are great and most of us know extremely
little about this part of the world...St.
Mary’s Kiwanis Inducts Two New Members

On
Tuesday, October 7, 2008 the Kiwanis Club of St. Mary’s
County inducted two new members. Don Stabile and Eva
Donahue were inducted at the club’s annual officer
installation dinner at the Tides Restaurant. Don Stabile
is the Faculty Advisor for the CKI Club at St. Mary’s
College of Maryland. He is a Professor of Economics
and a long-time resident of St. Mary’s County. He is
originally from Ft. Pierce, FL, and holds a bachelor’s
degree in Business from the University of Florida,
and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts.
His interests include economics, the stock market,
and sports, and he is an avid cyclist, kayaker, and
tennis player. Eva Donahue is the Faculty Advisor for
the newly chartered Key Club at Great Mills High School.
She moved to St. Mary’s County in 2003 and began teaching
Spanish at Great Mills at that time. Prior to that
she taught Spanish Language and Spanish Culture in
Rota, Spain for the University of Maryland from 1998
- 2003 to military personnel overseas. She also was a Visiting Professor of Spanish Language at St. Mary’s College of Maryland
from 2003-2004. She was born and raised in Spain, and
has three children who attend public schools in St.
Mary’s (7th grade, 9th grade and 11th grade). Her favorite
thing about being involved with Key Club is making
her students aware of the needs of others and trying
to be a good role model and inspiration to them, hoping
together they can make a difference in their community
and schools. Their fellow Kiwanis members are pleased
to have Don and Eva join their club and become involved
with the SLP clubs sponsored by St. Mary’s Kiwanis.
