Key
Leader March 27-29, 2009
by Nicole McDermott
My name is Nicole McDermott, and I am a member of the Kiwanis Club of Tysons Corner, Virginia. I am excited to be serving Capital as the 2008-09 Key Leader District Chair.
Key Leader is a weekend leadership development program for high school students sponsored by and created by Kiwanis that focuses on five principles - integrity, respect, growth, excellence, and community. The weekend includes hands-on exercises; writing and reflection activities; cooperative, team activities; physical challenges and more.
Our next Key Leader will be March 27-29, 2009, at Arlington Echo, in Millersville, Maryland. (This is the same location as the 2007 Key Leader event.) Donna Landis from the Kiwanis Club of Prince Georges County is our Site Coordinator. Please see attached newsletter for more information.
Kiwanis Clubs are encouraged to begin putting Key Leader in their budgets NOW for the 2008-09 Kiwanis year. The cost is $175/student or $150/Key Club or Builders Club member.
Because our event is a spring event, it is open to current 9th-12th graders, as well as rising 9th graders (current 8th graders). This broadens our promotional circle. Students do NOT need to be Key Club or Builders Club members to attend though, and there is no limit to the number of students per school who can attend.
Please let me know if you have any questions or need a better understanding of Key Leader. I am happy to promote this valuable program by talking more or emailing more with anyone who would like more information at any time!
ONWARD!
