The "K-Family Weekend" Brings Together the Key Club & CKI Boards with Kiwanis Leadership Team
a Photo Essay by Immediate Past Governor Bob Cressy

Have you ever been on a "K-Family Weekend"? You'd never forget it, I'll tell you. Just what is a K-Family weekend anyway? Well, its definition is really the Kiwanis Family Weekend. Its purpose is to gather the current Key Club Board, the CKI Board and the new Kiwanis leadership team, especially all of the 2008-2009 Lieutenant Governors, SLP advisors and K-Family Governors. They assemble for most of three days to work and play together, to share ideas, plans and to get to know one another while coordinating their goals. more or view event photo album

Spotlight on A Member - Van O. Rich
by Bill Butler

Our member Spotlight is on Van O. Rich of the Kiwanis Club of Winchester, Va. Van joined Kiwanis in June of 2000 and was sponsored by Past Lt. Governor David Reichert. David gave him good sponsorship advice and Van come out running. He signed on for the Membership Growth Commttee as a member and worked his way up to Chairman with super leadership. He volunteered to keep the roll, report to the Board of Directors the membership growth status and counsel any member who had attendance trouble. Always kept in mind to retain Kiwanians, he would assist in locating a Kiwanis Club for anyone who moved or had job related trouble in attending meetings. His computer is always busy turning out last minute announcements on meeting changes, etc. One of the first Kiwanians to greet everyone at meetings, he makes sure guests are taken care of and always explains to the great things our Kiwanis Club does to possible new members. A sponsor of many new members, Van prepares Certificates of Membership for all three Kiwanis Clubs in the Winchester area. On a sign up project sheet you can see Van O. Rich's name every time. If ever Kiwanis Club had a Van O. Rich, we would be at the million member mark now!!
