Kiwanis Of Laplata Supports Ugandan Orphanage
by Judi Gorney
The Kiwanis Club of LaPlata has thrown its support behind the actions of Zachary Smoot, a Charles County Maryland student, and other students from Clemson University who are visiting Uganda this year to help in the construction of a second orphanage in Turoro, Uganda. Many of the children in this town have become orphaned because they lost their parents to AIDS.
The students are paying their own travel expenses so any financial contributions like this one from the Kiwanis Club of LaPlata go directly to the materials for the orphanage. The students will help supply the labor needed. Father Athanasius Kikoba of Turoro, Uganda is hosting the students and supervising the construction. We wish Zachary safe travel and look forward to him coming to speak to our Club about his experiences.
