Maryland Legislator Addresses Crofton Club
On January 28, the Kiwanis Club of Crofton was honored to have as a guest speaker, Senator Thomas (Mac) Middleton, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee of the Maryland General Assembly. Senator Middleton presented an insider's view of the budgetary crisis facing the State and the related critical economic issues. Issues directly affecting Maryland citizens such as the pending Federal stimulus package and the anticipated affect of last year's referendum on slot machines were discussed. The audience obtained an insight about the operation of a legislative committee from an individual with years of experience with Maryland's financial affairs. A valuable question and answer period followed Senator Middleton's presentation. The club was very fortunate to have such a knowledgeable leader in the State legislature as a guest speaker at so critical a time for the formation of the State's economic policies.
Crofton Club Christmas Project
During
the month of December, the Crofton Kiwanis
Club assisted the Salvation Army with their
annual bell ringing project at the Crofton
Station Shopping Center Giant Food store. Approximately
100 hours of Kiwanis members' volunteer time
and manpower was used in providing the bell
ringers for four weekends at the shopping center.
Despite a downturned economy, local residents
responded generously by placing hundreds of
dollars into the red Salvation Army kettle
just before Christmas. This is an ongoing annual
project for the Crofton Club, and is headed
by member Bruce Jackson.
